The Best Spinnerbait Rod 2020? – My Spinnerbait Rod Recommendations

January 10, 2020 By Wes Leave a Comment

BEST SPINNERBAIT ROD

Fishing for bass with a spinnerbait can be very fun.

They are great lures to throw when you want to cover a lot of water. They also are very effective in muddy water and nothing compares to seeing a bass explode on a spinnerbait while topwater fishing.

However, in order to get the most out of them, you need to choose a good spinnerbait rod.

In this post, we will cover exactly what to look for when choosing a good spinnerbait rod. We will also discuss my spinnerbait rod recommendations and lastly, we will look at a few budget options.

Table of Contents

    • G. Loomis E6X | Best All Around Spinnerbait Rod
    • Denali Lithium Series | Best Spinnerbait Rod

    • Wright and McGill Skeet Reese Spinner Bait Fishing Rod | Best All Around Spinnerbait Rod

What is the best spinnerbait rod?

A good spinnerbait rod is going to have a medium to medium heavy power rating, a fast to extra fast action and is going to be around 7 feet long. Here are 6 of our favorites that meet that criteria.

  • G. Loomis E6X
  • Denali Lithium Series
  • Dobyns 704CB Glass
  • Lew’s Tournament Performance
  • St. Croix Bass X Series
  • Wright and McGill Skeet Reese Spinner Bait Series

What to look for in a good spinnerbait rod?

Before we take a look at some great options that are available on the market today, let’s talk about 3 key factors: Power rating, Action, and the length of the rod.

Power: When it comes to choosing a spinnerbait rod you want a rod that is powerful enough to set the hook, but not so powerful it is going to rip the hook out of the fish’s mouth.

My spinnerbait rod recommendation: Choose a fishing pole that has a power rating is anywhere between medium to medium heavy.

This is going to give you good power for hooksets but also give you enough power to get the fish out of cover. Keep in mind choosing the correct power rating is based on the weight of the lure you will be using as well. The heavier the lure the more powerful rod you will need.

Action: The action rating of the rod determines how much of the rod bends at the tip. This action rating can affect both the sensitivity and the casting distance of the fishing pole. A general rule to go by when choosing the right action depends mainly on the type of fishing hook you will be using.

For example, if you will be fishing with treble hooks such as a crankbait you will want a slower action. This action will give you more control over the fish. However, when fishing with a single hook such as a spinnerbait you would want to choose a fast to extra fast action.

My Spinnerbait Rod Recommendation: Choose a rod that has a fast to extra-fast action tip.

Length: There are no set rules to dictate which length will work better when fishing with a spinnerbait.

However. a few factors to keep in mind is that shorter fishing poles are going to give you more control and tend to be more accurate, while longer rods, on the other hand, tend to make longer cast. Having a longer fishing rod will also give you a little more power than a shorter rod will.

My recommendation would be to choose a rod that is between 6’9″ – 7′ long.

Now that we have talked about what to look for, let’s take a look at a few of our favorites.

G. Loomis E6X | Best All Around Spinnerbait Rod

  • Power: Medium
  • Action: Extra Fast
  • Lure: 3/8 – 1/2 oz
  • Line: 10 – 17lb
  • Length: 6′ 9″
  • 1 piece

G.Loomis knows how to make a good fishing rod. When it comes to making a good spinnerbait rod the G. Loomis E6X is no exception. The medium power rating gives you the perfect amount of power when fishing with mid-range spinnerbaits.

This rod also has an extra fast action. This extra fast action gives you added sensitivity and more control of your cast.

With this fishing pole, you will not only be able to put the lure exactly where you want it but have the power to take control of the fish when it hits.

Denali Lithium Series | Best Spinnerbait Rod

  • Power: Medium Heavy
  • Action: Moderate Fast
  • Lure: 5/16 – 1 oz
  • Line: 10 – 20lb
  • Length: 6′ 10″
  • Handle Length: 14 inches

Fishing with spinnerbaits can mean a lot of casting. Doing this all day with a heavy rod can be very tiring. The people at Denali had this in mind when creating the Denali Lithium Series.

The Lithium Series is designed to be extremely lightweight. What this means for you, if that you no longer will be fatigued after fishing all day.

Another thing to look at is the power rating and the action. Designed with a medium heavy power rating and a moderate fast action this rod gives you exactly what you need when fishing with larger spinnerbaits.

Dobyns 704CB | Glass Option

  • Power: Medium
  • Action: Fast
  • Lure: 1/4 – 3/4 oz
  • Line: 8 – 17 lb
  • Length: 7 feet

The next on our list is the Dobyns 704CB Glass.

What makes this option unique is that is it made of fiberglass. What is the difference between glass and graphite?

Well, for one, glass tends to be more durable. So, if you choose the Dobyns 704 CB glass you know that you are getting a quality rod that will last you many fishing seasons.

In addition, many have found that glass can be a good topwater rod because it can be both sensitive and lightweight.

With that being said, I can say with confidence that with a medium power rating and a fast tip this is exactly what the 704 CB has to offer.

Let’s take a look a few of the best spinnerbait rods under $100

Lew’s Tournament Performance

  • Power: Medium Heavy
  • Action: Fast
  • Lure Rating: 3/16 – 5/8 ounces
  • Line Rating: 10 – 20 pounds
  • Length: 6’10”
  • Handle Length: 15 inches
  • 1 piece blank

One of the best budget spinnerbait rods on the market is Lew’s Tournament Performance. This is a medium heavy, fast action spinnerbait rod. One of the best features is the length.

Measuring in at 6’10” not only will make this rod a launching machine, but also give you that extra power and backbone to land the biggest fish.

Next, it is equipped with microwave guides, helping to improve casting distance and overall accuracy.

In addition, it is made with IM8 graphite which is a premium material for a budget price.

If you are just beginning to fish with spinnerbaits and looking for a good all around spinnerbait fishing rod, this may be the one just for you.

St Croix Bass X

  • Power: Medium
  • Action: Extra Fast
  • Lure: 1/4 to 5/8 oz
  • Line: 8 – 14 pounds
  • Length: 6’8″
  • Handle Length: 14 inches

Just what kind of fishing pole can you buy for around $100?

Well, St. Croix has decided to raise the standard with their St. Croix Bass X Series.

One thing that has always set St. Croix apart from its competitors is the premium graphite material they use in all of their rods.

And Bass X series is no different. It is made with SCII graphite ensuring that it is both sensitive and lightweight.

In addition, it is packing plenty of power with a medium power rating and has an extra fast action.

Lastly, it is only 6 feet 8 inches which is a little below my recommendation, but don’t let that discourage you from buying a good piece of graphite.

These rods, even though a little smaller than your standard spinnerbait rod, measuring in a little over 6 feet 8 inches. The length along with the moderate fast action really gives you much more control over your cast.

Wright and McGill Skeet Reese Spinner Bait Fishing Rod | Best All Around Spinnerbait Rod

  • Power: Medium
  • Action: Moderate Fast
  • Lure: 1/4 to 3/4 oz
  • Line: 10 – 20lb
  • Length: 7′

Spinnerbaits work great for topwater fishing. However, when fishing topwater you want a fishing rod with a quick action to get the fish out of cover as quickly as possible.

This fishing rod does just that.

Another great feature of the Wright and McGill Skeet Reese Spinner Bait Series is the unique S-Curve Blank Construction.

This unique construction helps to make this rod super lightweight but also can help to improve casting distance.

The medium power rating makes it perfect for fishing with medium-sized spinnerbaits.
